Synopsis:
Since May 7th, 1986, the southern French port city of Marseilles has been without its long-time leader, Gaston Defferre. In 1945, as a young lawyer, machine-gun in hand, he led the uprising to free the city from the German occupation. For the next 33 years he strove to turn the “Phocaean City” into a great contemporary metropolis. By means of this unique documentary and relying on archive footage and previously unseen eye-witness accounts, we focus on his final three years at the helm.
