From the timbre of a spoken, sung or shouted voice, to the fragile silences of a city, by way of the power of gusts of wind through the plain, the pleasure of listening is the same, and it goes by that of finding one’s place. Beyond the mastery of the technique, finding the right place in the space and especially with the people whom we choose to record and film, for, later, allowing the audience to find themselves in this place, is for me at the heart of this job. It is central to my work in documentary, where the encounter is often the support point.
